Stained glass 07: Butterflies and flowers

Two panels for a stained glass lamp in progress. These are quite fiddly to cut out, even though I’ve been simplifying the original design like mad. It’s a pity the photograph doesn’t do justice to the iridescence in the butterfly wings. I’m using Spectrum glass for the wings. The rest of the panel will be a warm opaque beige recommended by my tutor, Caroline. The object is to make a ceiling lamp that will look nice whether or not the light is switched. It’s surprising how much the colours change when the light is on behind them. It’s an amazing shift — sometimes they don’t even look like the same colour at all.
