Printmaking 18: Woodgrain collagraphs

The collagraph plates before inking. The prints reveal the woodgrain well, but the press didn’t have enough pressure on most of them to be properly embossed. I prefer a strongly-embossed surface, but it doesn’t distracts from the final prints. The wood was salvaged veneer off an ancient, very weathered, very warped bookcase in the back of the shed, so no idea what variety of tree it came from. It has an oaky look but could be pine.
