Illustration: Celtic animals

These animals were drawn from the book Celtic Art: The Methods of Construction by George Bain, a marvellous work with many images from the Book of Kells, the Book of Durham and other illuminated manuscripts, plus his own drawings of celtic and Pictish art from standing stones in England and Scotland.
My intention was to use these for a series of stained glass, which requires a lot of simplification of the design. You can’t, for example, cut a spiral in glass very easily. I’ve had an attempt at the horse but was perhaps a bit ambitious.

Having recently become interested in mosaic (and acquired a lot of ceramic tiles and spent money on tools), I’m thinking it might be easier to adapt these images to mosaics.
